Bayswater's OMUS Pty Ltd has taken out the 'People's Choice Award' at this year's FESPA Awards gala dinner in Hamburg, Germany, for a Louis Vuitton pop-up display produced on a Massivit 3D printer last year.
The People's Choice Award was the result of four weeks of online voting by the FESPA print community from a shortlist of entries. Avner Israeli, from Massivit, was at the event to accept the award on OMUS's behalf.
Robert Grosso, managing director of OMUS, was thrilled at the result and gave heartfelt thanks to everyone who helped with the project. "I just want to give a huge thank you to the team, especially Michael, Matt, Dan and Rocky and acknowledge their efforts to get it done. A big thank you as well to Photo Electronic Services for their support, and to the guys at Gold Coast Displays for the opportunity to work on the project," he said.
The dome-shaped pop-up was the first major point-of-sale display in the world to be produced using 3D printing technology, and employed two Massivit 1800 machines. 48 sections were produced, then shipped to the site and assembled before being wrapped in film. "I think what this ‘bleeding-edge’ exercise has proven is that oversize 3D printing can interpret and deliver a designer’s visions in a way that no other fabrication method can. Louis Vuitton’s boldness and faith also went a long way to making it a reality,” Grosso said in December.
OMUS already has more projects in the pipeline, and is shooting for another award next year. "Our business has prided itself on innovation and technology that is just emerging in the Australian Market. We are currently working on some major projects both overseas and in Australia, and have just released Kino-mo holographic technology to Australia, officially launching at PacPrint, which is really exciting. We’ll try to take another award out next year for sure," Grosso said.
