McCourt’s eye spots the locals at IPEX

Just a quick blog and some photos take on-the-fly as I begin to emerge from press office hibernation and sniff the spring air of Birmingham.

Lovely to bump into Linda Tennanbaum and Luce Lopez from Sydney's MPD Printing the News, a major contract newspaper operation producing many street, ethnic and other newspapers. They were headed to the finishing Halls and are also keeping a steady eye on digital newspaper developments.

Turns out Simon E and Bob Murphy (pictured below, right) of Serendipity Software were on the same plane and didn't know it. Here's a photo of these two hardy travellers arriving after a 23-hour flight – in pretty good shape if you ask me.

David Crowther of DES is a regular feature on Mellow Colour's stands at big shows and we caught him setting up with Sarah Weightman, formerly of Sydney, now back in the UK.

And seen walking the aisles despite having arrived the same day, Scott and Mirren Telfer of Southern Colour (pictured below), fresh from merging McDonald & Masterton into the fold.

Our NZ cousins were about too and seen on the SCREEN stand were Laurence Evans of Astra Printing with Peter Scott of SCREEN Aus.

Other folks run into but not snapped on the Leica are; Chris Miller of Salmat, Ray Bounsall of Ferag and Dick Tibbitts of Pre Media Solutions.

The weather here is improving too and the newspapers are exclaiming the temperature could get 'as high as a blazing 25 degrees' by Friday. Wow 25 and blazing, better not tell them about Marble Bar eh? Still it really is great and with evenings staying light until 8:30 or even 9pm, this IPEX is delivering everything including climate.

All for now...
