Mergers, acquisitions and alliances from around the world: 25 May 2011

This week’s M&A activity is headed by the latest HP buy plus GMG entering the large format market.

HP acquires Printelligent assets

HP signs agreement to acquire substantially all of the assets of US-based Printelligent, a closely held provider of managed print services (MPS) for an undisclosed sum.

HP Imaging and Printing Group executive vice president, Vyomesh Joshi says the acquisition reinforces a commitment to its channel partners “by bringing them a level of technology and experience that is unprecedented in the industry.”

The acquired Printelligent assets will be integrated into the LaserJet and Enterprise Solutions unit within the HP Imaging and Printing Group.

Printelligent CEO, Rob Wellman says over the past 23 years the company built an industry-leading managed print offering, now with “HP’s strength, this offering will continue to grow, and channel partners will deliver an unparalleled solution to help customers better manage their print environments.”

GMG enters new market with Aurelon purchase

GMG continues its strategic expansion beyond traditional market segments by entering the large format print production market, after acquiring Netherlands-based Aurelon.

GMG CEO Paul Willems says now is the right time for the company to step up its presence in this market “As applications in the market and for service providers are getting more sophisticated and brand owners are raising their demands for color quality and consistency.”

Aurelon is its second acquisition after the UK-based media production technology company CWS was bought earlier this year. ??

Aurelon Director of R&D, Erik Strik says both companies have been developing and providing solutions for standardizing print processes “Now, with GMG’s global presence and sales channels, we can deliver this groundbreaking technology to the global market. Current users will benefit from further GMG investment in Aurelon technology and also get access to GMG color management technology.”
