National Print Awards prepares for its 25th year

Entries are open for the 2008 National Print Awards.

The National Print Awards, which has been running since 1982, makes its milestone 25th year. Chairman Scott Telfer said that the awards were not just a celebration of excellence but also a reflection of advances made in the past 25 years. "There is perhaps no other industry in Australia which has changed as dramatically as the graphic arts over the past quarter of a century," he said.

"The printing process has been revolutionised since the first National Print Awards was held in 1982."

In spite of this optimism, Telfer still advised entrants to check their work thoroughly before submission. "Every year, the judges comment that individual printing faults in some pieces preclude them from receiving an award, even though in all likelihood, the fault is not representative of the run as a whole," he said.

"The judges can only assess the copies submitted, so it's critical that those copies are checked carefully to ensure your work has the bet possible chance for medal selection."

Telfer said that the point of the National Print Awards was to recognise the craft and art of printing. "The achievement of excellence in print will always require the heart and eye of a craftsman and it is this, above all, that we celebrate at the National Print Awards."

To be eligible for the National Print Awards, entries must have been produced between 1 January 2007 and 31 December 2007. Winners will be announced at the presentation dinner in Melbourne, 16 April 2008. Entry forms can be downloaded by clicking here.
