New name and premises for Altshul Printers

After 60 years of trading, Altshul Printers moves to new home in Derrimut, Victoria, changing names to Sands Print.

Since opening its doors in 1946, Altshul Printers, grew to a company of 160 employees. In 2001 it acquired the Sands Print Group and, according to managing director, Mannie Stub, began considering merging the two operations together.

"After wide-ranging consultation between the directors and our key stakeholders, we decided that it was appropriate to consolidate all of our business units under one roof in a new complex specifically designed for the purpose," he said.

Stub acknowledged that much has changed since the company first opened. "Altshul Printers in 2008 bears no resemblance to the company that opened its doors in 1946," he said.

"We made the decision to concentrate on a name that is most closely associated with our combined history."

The $20 million investment will give Sands Print the advantage of bringing its printing, design and graphic services together in the one location. Sands Print will still maintain its operations in Geelong, Clayton and in the Melbourne and Sydney CBDs.

Stub intends for the new premises to take on board a number of environmental initiatives as part of the 'green revolution'. "It is another step in the generational change that began in a small shop in Melbourne over 60 years ago," he said.
