NSW Government Printer is up for sale
The decision to privatise the profit making groups has shocked its 300 plus employees. Stop work meetings and work bans were temporarily put in place but have since been withdrawn at the heavily unionised sites.
According to sources within the department the reason given by the Government is that the businesses no longer fit the Department of Commerce's model. Elizabeth Zealand, general manager, was unavailable for comment at time of going to press.
The same sources indicate Australia Post may very well be in the running for all three businesses, but since the consolidation the business have been runing profitably and are likely to attract considerable interest from the industry.
QStores distributes consumer goods, stationery and school supplies; State Mail provides mail collection, sorting and delivery services; the Government Printing Service provides total document management solutions. All these services are provided to a wide range of customers, primarily to NSW Government agencies, but also to the private sector.
cmSolutions provides both print and logistics services that range from large complex print projects and document management services to a pre-paid next day delivery priority satchel service. Its main production premises are at Regent's Park in Sydney South-Westen suburbs.
Interested parties may submit an EOI for one or more of the businesses. The NSW Government will evaluate the EOIs received and select a shortlist of organisations and/or consortia to submit final bids for the businesses.
EOIs are to be received by 9.30am AEST on Tuesday 27th July, 2004. Details regarding lodgment of an EOI are contained in the Invitation for Expressions of Interest.
