NSW government stays committed to print: CEO Forum

Deputy Premier, Carmel Tebbutt, assures printers that politicians in New South Wales aren’t backing out on print.

At this week’s CEO Forum in Leichhardt, Tebbutt delivered a speech briefly outlining the state government’s printing needs and usage. “The government in New South Wales is committed to a strong relationship with industry,” she said.

She is well aware that printers have been experiencing economic difficulties, but is sanguine that there could be a recovery. “It’s true that in bad times, printing and communication budgets feel the pinch first from companies budgets and it takes a while for that to return. Employment will grow.”

CEO of Printing Industries, Philip Andersen, wasted no time in asking the first question as to whether the government sees printing as an unsustainable industry.

“I don’t think it’s the view of the New South Wales government,” Tebbutt replied. “We have, over a significant time, made plans for government agencies to reduce their waste [but] we will always see a role for to printing industry when we communicate with the public.”

She was also quick to add that the use of new forms of media have increased, and cannot be ignored. “It [the printing industry] is one that, like most, needs to change with the times,” she said.

As for herself, Tebbutt’s own usage has not declined. “I do as much printing as I have in the past – but I use other means as well,” she finished.
