NZ digital production print machines to top 600
Initial PODi (Aust NZ) survey of NZ digital production print market confirms strong growth of colour installations.
An increase of 61 per cent is forecast for the number of colour production digital print machine sales installed in New Zealand this year while monochrome growth slows. According to the figures contained in the Caslon commissioned PODi report there will be 931 colour and 693 monochrome production digital machines by the end of the year.
According to David Gradwell, author of the survey, assuming an average of 2.9 digital machines per site means there are approximately 560 digital production print sites throughout the country. He identifies three underlying trends driving the growth of the sector; the shift from offset to digital, monochrome to colour and the capability and affordability of the new digital print engines.
(The studies definition of production digital print devices includes laser and inkjet printers but excludes offset presses.)
The New Zealand study is the second regional survey conducted since PODi opened its Australian and New Zealand branch http://www.print21.com.au/news/podi-opens-its-doors-to-australia/. The first Australian industry survey was released in October.
According to Garry Knespal, general manager, Caslon Aust NZ, the aim of the studies is to assist and support members that utilise digital printing in their marketing and general business strategies. He expects the information obtained will generate membership of the new regional body. “Print service providers, creatives and digital print vendors throughout the region will have local access to PODi resources, including an online library of 300 case studies of ‘best practice’ in digital print,” he said.
Local content will be added to the mainly US-based online case studies. Check out the full report and membership opportunities at www.podi.com.au
