NZ printer strikes gold home and abroad

Admark Visual Imaging has won international acclaim for its Burger King backlit graphics, with two different entries winning gold in Australia and the US.

At the Specialist Graphic Imaging Association (SGIA) Golden Image Awards in the US, the company struck gold with the Andre Schellenberg Award. A little closer to home, Admark took out the President’s Supreme Award for digital printing at the Screen & Digital Print Awards of Australia (SGIAA).

According to managing director, Laurie Pilling, the 40-year-old company only entered a single category for each award, and left with top prizes from both.

“I was over personally to attend the SCGIAA awards in Sydney. The night was very professionally done and was a great evening. We only entered into one category, with six backlit signs. And got a gold, silver and bronze.

“In that category we won everything we could, and then went on to win the President’s Supreme Award for digital printing. They were different signs than we entered into the US,” he says.

The winning entries were produced on a trio of Seiko 64S large format digital printers. All three machines sit side-by-side at its main factory in Hamilton.

Admark has come far in its 40 years from a small company that started out with three staff. It now employs over 50 people and handles big corporate clients in the NZ market for all three technologies, screen, digital and labels.

Pilling has been running the company for 20 years and believes it is in a strong position given the economic climate. “We haven’t entered the Australian awards for some years, as there is just so much you can do while focusing on the business,” he adds. “So it was really good to get the prize.”
