One-stop safety centre for NSW print companies

A one-stop-shop of workplace safety information has been launched by Printing Industries to make it easier for NSW printing companies to manage workplace risk.

Printing Industries CEO, Philip Andersen, said the project formed part of a partnership agreement between the association and WorkCover NSW providing resources supporting the notion that safe businesses were good businesses.

“This new facility is an important step in our continuing relationship with WorkCover and a major time saving benefit for printing companies needing to keep up to date with the latest policies and procedures,” he said.

The OHS&E Resource Centre contains a comprehensive range of WorkCover NSW resources covering key the areas of risk management; chemical management; noise, slips, trips and falls; plant and equipment; workers compensation; bullying; emergencies; manual handling; consultation and legislation.

There are legislative summaries, compliance check lists of what WorkCover inspectors may look for, chemical safety and usage guides, noise management information, machinery and equipment safety guides, how to prevent slips, trips and falls, workers compensation injury and claims procedures and dispute resolution.

Andersen said that while the Resource Centre featured quick access to key information to help companies to manage their occupational health and safety, workers compensation and information system assistance, it was an enhancement to and not a substitute for professional advice.

Printing Industries staff should always be consulted for advice when considering changes in workplace policies or practices,” he said.

“Every company has different circumstances and needs. Often the interpretation of information can cause more complications than it resolves if their application is not based on the experience and professional advice, something Printing Industries members have ready access to.”
