Leading South Australian commercial printer Openbook Howden Print & Design has bought out competitor Supreme Printers and will move the company into its facility at St Marys.

“We are pleased to announce that OBH have further strengthened our position as leaders in the Australian printing industry after acquiring Supreme Printers SA,” says Michael Richards, COO, OBH, in a Facebook post. “Supreme Printers SA will now operate as Openbook Howden Print & Design, from within our facilities in St Marys.”

The deal came about after OBH management heard that Stuart Braund, the owner of Supreme Printers, wanted to move on.

“We became aware that Stuart was looking to get out of the industry, but he’s agreed to come over and assist us through a transition period,” says Sarah Leo, GM, brand, strategy & people, Openbook Howden. “We will continue to use the Supreme Printers brand for a while until the business is legally transferred to our name.”

Supreme, established in 1989, was a family-owned company based in the heart of Adelaide’s CBD at 25 Marlborough Street. No other staff members or equipment are included in the deal. An auction of printing machinery and equipment will be held next week. Key staff members all reportedly secured other employment opportunities before the sale was announced.

Leo says the acquisition will make Openbook Howden a stronger company.

“We run quite a diverse commercial printing operation, offering everything from roll labels to offset printing, cheque printing, short run digital and print management. The Supreme client list will be a boost to our business and those clients will now be able to enjoy a broader choice of services, including things like online ordering and inventory management.”

Openbook Howden is an Australian owned and operated family company, employing 56 staff members at its facility at St Marys, just south of Adelaide’s CBD.
