Global packaging giant Orora has bought a brand-new Roland 707 HiPrint seven colour sheetfed offset press from manroland for its new Greenfield plant in New Zealand.

Melbourne-based Orora, an international packaging company listed on the ASX, provides print and packaging solutions to customers in North America, Australia and New Zealand and last year enjoyed sales of AUD$3.4 billion.

“We absolutely understand that brand recognition and differentiation are vital for our customers’ success,’’ said Nabil Askari, GM, Orora New Zealand. “It is these customers’ needs that drive us to continue to invest in the world’s first-class technologies.”

Orora had previously installed two six-color Roland 700 presses with double coaters series 720 and 742 and the machines were considered key contributors to the company’s success because of their quality, productivity and value added printing.  Encouraged by the performance of the two manroland presses, Orora decided to order a brand-new seven-color Roland 707 with coating module, Inline ColorPilot and Integration Pilot Plus for its new Greenfield site. Installation will take place mid next year.  Orora also purchased innovative technologies such as ColorPilot Smart and Integration Pilot Plus to upgrade its existing six-color Roland 700 presses.

Askari said the new Roland 707 offset would boost Orora’s high speed and efficient production. Moving to the Greenfield site was a good reason to have a new press but it had to be the right choice and Orora’s procurement team ensured they picked the right press for quality and productivity, he said. “In short, the best value for money."

“In today's environment, it’s not just about installing a new press, it’s also about changing the mindset of the operators to cope with the automation and high-speed operation of the new presses,’’ said Steve Dunwell, MD, manroland Australasia. “We are sure that our partnership with Orora will help them to gain the maximum productivity from the new press.”

Orora, whose headquarters are in Melbourne, recently was awarded the Best Process Innovation in the 2015 BRW Most Innovative Companies awards and won 14 gold medals at New Zealand’s Pride in Print Awards for 2015. The company manufactures corrugated boxes, folding cartons, multi-wall bags and sacks, aluminium beverage cans, glass bottles and offers a range of packaging services such as design and research. It also includes a recycled paper mill.
