An industry-wide survey uses cutting edge information technology to engage participants on what is needed for the printing industry to thrive.

A new survey launched this week by David Leach, president, Printing Industries, is not only targeting the membership of the premiere industry association but reaching out to engage with the broader industry. It is seeking to uncover the requirements of business owners in the printing industries and what they want from the industry association.

According to Leach, the arrival of the internet 20 years ago has rendered much of the structure and services of traditional industry associations redundant. "We want to know what is required for the printing industry to not only keep up with the changes but for printers to be leaders in the transformation of industry," he said.

The 3-4 minute survey uses the latest information intelligence to compile and reveal what are the concerns and needs of businesses operating in the printing space.  "I want the survey to be a beacon for the whole industry. It will allow us not only to understand what the industry wants but importantly what we've left out [of the survey]," he said.

"We want the industry to tell us what would be of greatest value for them."

The survey is compiled by the board of Printing Industries, and managed by It company Managility. It represents a new level of professionalism in industry surveys and one that Leach intends to be the first of many.

"We need to reinvent ourselves to meet the requirements of the industry. The old ways are no longer useful and we need to engage with the broad industry to move forward," he said.
