Roland DG's new GR series of professional vinyl cutters, a Print21 Hot Pick at PacPrint 2017, has been completely redesigned to deliver best-in-class cutting quality and productivity.

"The cutting speed of the new GR 640/540 series is one of the biggest changes to the previous generation of cutters," says Greg Stone, Roland DG Australia product & marketing manager. "It's a hell of a lot faster and the fastest in this class of cutter.

The new GR series also features increased accuracy, media versatility and additional cutting options.

"The design of the machine itself has been updated to accommodate these really fast speeds," says Stone. "The new ergonomic L-shaped design of the integrated stand and machine provides the stability required to ensure precision cutting at high speeds. You can see the frame is pretty heavy duty because you can imagine the head carriages are moving very fast. This stand design minimises the movement, which ultimately means the accuracy of the cut is improved over those long runs."

Stone says the cutting industry has become increasingly diverse. “In addition to sign making, cutting now includes the production of window and vehicle graphics, window tinting and car protection film for automotive restyling, personalised apparel, labels and decals, packaging prototypes, paint/sandblast stencils and more.

"The breadth of applications demands the ability to handle a wide range of materials of varying thicknesses, such as window films, high intensity reflective materials, heat transfer materials including flock and glitter, cardboard, and sandblast mask.”

The software for the new CAMM series includes plug-in software that allows outputting from Adobe® Illustrator® and CorelDRAW®.

Since 1988, Roland DG has sold more than 440,000 vinyl cutters.
