Paper company APP Australia is closing down
According to a report in the inaugural IndustryEdge www.industryedge.com.auAPP Australia has started the processes of handing over the sales and administration for its Australian customers to a Singapore-owned, but locally-operated merchant called Paper Force. APP Australia imports cut reams and coated and uncoated woodfree reels and sheets from Indonesia.
The sales force had their contracts with APP Australia terminated but were offered positions with Paper Force if they wished to apply.
The handover of operations will take place this month as Paper Force progressively takes over APP sales operations in Australia.
Eventually all staff will have their current contracts terminated and be encouraged to apply for the equivalent of their current jobs with Paper Force. The expectation is that the end of 2004 will complete the process, when Paul George, the current Managing Director of APP Australia, will close down the current company.
In October 2003, APP’s UK sales office was closed as a result of the American Home Assurance Company, part of the American International Group, trying to recover funds owed by APP, by pursuing the APP UK office rather than being part of the debt restructuring negotiations. The distribution and marketing of APP products in the UK was subsequently transferred to Calington Ltd.
