Paperless office out of the question claims Canon study

65 per cent of Australian office workers believe they will never see a paperless office environment, according to the latest Canon Business Printing Study.

The study, conducted by Galaxy Research this year for Canon Australia, must have been a welcome relief for those who fear an electronic invasion.

“It’s clear from the research that printing is still an important part of the Australian office. However, businesses need to take control of their print environment in order to minimise paper wastage and reduce costs.  Annual paper consumption can be reduced by around 30 per cent by introducing an integrated hardware/software plan,” said Jeremy Plint, assistant general manager, product marketing for Canon Australia.

The research also confirmed that some office workers fulfill the great Australian stereotype of being lazy: the survey found workers double up on printed documents by mistake with 14 per cent admitting to being regular repeat offenders. The research indicates more than half of workers will print an entire email trail when they only needed the last email in the conversation.

It was also discovered that Australian office workers are spending up to half an hour a day waiting for their documents unnecessarily. Average wait time for documents is around two minutes, while the average worker prints at least 15 documents every day.
