Perfect binding lines ready for trade

Two perfect binding trade houses have written to Print21 to let the industry know they are ready for new business in the light of the closure of Sydney Binding.

Special Binding Services in Brisbane is a trade house with high-volume Kolbus binders, while Cheque Mates in Sydney has a trade only Horizon perfect binding line for short to medium runs.

Tim Laidlaw, binder manager at Special Binding Services said, “I’d like to let you, and your readers, know that Special Binding Service, located in Hemmant in Brisbane, is a major perfect binding trade house that has been operating for 50 years.

“The majority of our work is in PUR perfect binding – we have been using PUR spine glue since 2008 – which we have the capability to run on both of our Kolbus binders.”

The binders are the Kolbus KM412, which runs at 12,000 copies an hour, and the Kolbus KM600 7,000 copies an hour system.

Laidlaw said, “In total, our climate-controlled facility is 3700 square meters.”

Rodney Frost at Cheque Mates said, “We are a trade only supplier with a Horizon EVA perfect binder, which is perfect for Sydney work. We also offer a host of other services. We can mail the books if required, and we have the full suite of trade finishing services, bar case binding."

Cheque Mates is part of the group that includes Lamson Paragon and Paper Rolls; all companies are trade only. Frost said, "We have the expertise and the capability, and offer numerous value add options."

NSW has other trade finishing houses with perfect binders, such as Wayne Rubin's Twin Loop, these also tend to operate in the short to medium run sector.
