'Reasonably confident': Kieran May, acting president, PIAA

The PIAA is moving closer to choosing its next CEO and has scheduled a national telephone conference of all nine board members next week to consider the shortlist of candidates.

"The telephone hookup is for three board members who couldn't make the first round of interviews held in Sydney last week, when six candidates were interviewed," said acting PIAA president Kieran May.

"The process is ticking along nicely and we haven't yet ruled out any of the six people short-listed.  They are all high calibre candidates with a diverse range of experience in print and communications and related areas."

After the drama surrounding the shock resignation of former CEO Jason Allen just before Christmas, May is understandably reluctant to get ahead of the process in what is seen as a key decision for the revamped PIAA board that includes four new directors.

"We're reasonably confident we can achieve a good result next week but of course there's no guarantee that any of those six will get an offer," he said.

"If the board members are all in agreement and totally confident with one of the six, then we'll make an offer.  But if not, then we'll have to go again. Either way, we expect to have a decision next week on the candidates that have been interviewed."
