PICAs kick off in Tasmania

Tasmanian PICAs kick off the first of the state-based print awards.

Now in its 28th year, the night drew a crowd of 260 local industry professionals with awards presented in 82 different categories.

Jim Atkinson, national president of Printing Industries, welcomed guests and spoke about the importance of design to the print industry and the ongoing challenge of environmental responsibility.

It was GEON's moment to shine, as the company stole the night with eight gold and 15 silver wins, followed by Flying Colours with seven gold and seven silver. In the graphic design awards, Walker Design and Red Jelly came in at equal first, each taking out four golds and six silvers.

An excited Simon Bevan, sales and marketing manager for GEON hailed the event as a "roaring success", not just for GEON but all those in attendance.

"With an increase of over 500 entries this year, the organising committee were buoyed by the industry's support of the event," he said.
