PM invites Printing Industries to Future Jobs Forum

Prime Minister Julia Gillard has invited Printing Industries CEO Bill Healey to participate in the Future Jobs Forum to be held at Parliament House later this week.

According to Healey, the invitation from the Prime Minister was positive recognition of the Associations relationship with the Federal Government and is an important step in positioning the industry on the government’s radar as a major employer.

“This forum is all about laying the groundwork for the future economic development of Australia’s employment infrastructure to take advantage of innovation, technology, services growth and our country’s projected future economic performance.

“From Printing Industries perspective it’s recognition that our industry has an influential role to play in the future of Australia’s economic development and the opportunity to reinforce our position on future industry skills development to help re-position us in the rapidly evolving knowledge economy,” he says.

The Forum has been limited to 80 representatives from business, unions, government and academia. It will discuss:

  • The changing structure of the Australian economy
  • Drivers of job creation and investment
  • Manufacturing in the next decade
  • Services in the next decade (focussing on tourism, international education and retail)
  • Seizing new opportunities through innovation, competition and effective partnership

Prime Minister Gillard says the Forum would be held on Thursday 6 October. “The Future Jobs Forum will provide an important opportunity to discuss how Australia can build on its outstanding record of economic growth and job creation, and best position our nation to benefit from the changing global economy,” she says.
