The new software is a poster-creation application with a range of new design features to make in-house poster production easier, with better quality output. The range will be sold through Alloys, GBC, DES, Anitech and Canon’s regional business partner channel.

With the use of large format inkjet printers continuing to expand in a variety of different vertical markets, there has been an increasing demand for a simplified poster creation workflow targeted for the novice user. With PosterArtist 2009, Canon's fourth generation of PosterArtist software, the latest additions and improvements provide users with the ability to produce professional, high-quality posters.

According to Jeremy Plint, marketing manager - office imaging products at Canon, the application provides the tools necessary to create design-savvy posters without the need for a graphic design specialist.

“What this means is that in addition to the time and cost savings for large format print jobs that may previously have been outsourced, companies will be able to innovate and try new things,” he said. “This in itself can lead to new creative and commercial opportunities.”

Beyond the pale – Raleigh Paper’s fresh new take on white paper
White no longer needs to be boring, according to Raleigh Paper. Its latest Albino range is an exploration of Albinism and demonstrates the flexibility and versatility of three distinct uncoated, coated and super calendered papers – Nordset, Novatech and Look!

These three economical brands, offer superior quality, high performance and proven reliability with class leading environmental credentials. According to marketing manager, Rod Williamson, it’s the theme of Albinism which has really opened eyes, and minds, of Raleigh’s clients.

“It’s an unusual subject and could be considered controversial by some,” he said. “When the agency, Yello, came up with the concept, we were unsure. But once we saw the images, and the way they were handling the subject so sensitively – it’s really an education piece rather than a piece of overt sensationalism.”

Using a wide variety of techniques and processes, and showcasing all the papers in different situations - the booklet also sets new benchmarks in production values and technical know-how. It has spot uv varnishing, spot foiling, matt and gloss varnishes, different weights, a whole raft of print processes and finishes from four colour process, halftones, duotones, bump plates to fluorescent inks.
