Print leaders head to Adelaide for future of the book talk

Alan Fahy, CEO of McPhersons, Philip Andersen, CEO, Printing Industries and Lorraine Cassin, AMWU head to Adelaide for Book Industry Strategy Group workshop next week.

The workshop takes place on 11 February in Adelaide and will specifically look at print-related issues in the book industry. “The idea of all of these workshops is that they are future-orientated,” said a spokesperson from the department of innovation, industry, science and research. “The facilitator is Oliver Freeman, who will work with participants to develop possible scenarios for the future of the industry.”

According to the spokesperson, approximately 20 representatives from the Australian printing industry will attend the invitation-only event. “We looked at different print companies and tried to get a cross section form the industry,” they said.

Nine different workshops are being run around the country, with the outcomes of each compiled into one report submitted to the Book Industry Strategy Group, which was announced by Innovation minister Senator Kim Carr, (pictured) last year.

“It is about bringing people together and giving them a chance to find common ground and a shared purpose,” said Carr. “This will include working with the printing industry working group; the creative industries innovation centre and the IT industry innovation council.”
