Work History
1983–1998 Superior Press
Cameron started as a trainee planner estimator doing some bindery and dispatch duties to get a general feel of how the printing industry works. As his experience grew, he spent more and more time leaning how to estimate and plan work manually.
Superior Press purchased an estimating/production system called Optimus. Cameron was heavily involved in setting up the estimating and production control modules on this system.
In 1989, Cameron was promoted to the position of Branch Manager for the South Melbourne Branch. This role encompassed managing five staff, purchasing, estimating and planning.
In 1990 all the branches of Superior Press where closed and brought under one roof. At this time, Cameron was promoted to Planning and Estimating Manager, overseeing the workflow and efficiency of four staff and the maintenance and upkeep of the estimating system.
Cameron moved to the position of Quality Assurance Manager supervising one staff member and a committee. This met on a weekly basis. This role involved Cameron assisting Superior Press obtaining accreditation to ISO9002.
The key role also included keeping records to meet accreditation requirements, calibration records housekeeping records, insuring quality checks where being done and undertaking audits.
Cameron was then promoted to Production Manager. In this role, he was responsible for all aspects of managing 30 staff. Vital to this role was being familiar with the various machinery, including Speedmaster 102 5 Colour; Speedmaster 102 6 Colour; Speedmaster 52 5 Colour; 2 Colour GTO, Single Colour GTO, Cylinder, Platen, Sthal Golder, Muller Martini.
At this time, film was still output; some was outsourced and some ran out in house to A3 size and plates where made in house.
In addition to the above full-time positions, Cameron also held the part time position of First Aid Officer.
1998-2008 CamRon Press / Core Print Group
Cameron started his own printing business with colleague Ron Peters.)
Cameron built the business up from two machines and four full time staff to four presses and six staff. He was involved in all aspects of managing the business including: sales accounts (using MYOB) incorporating BAS statements, debt collection and managing the businesses’ finances and payroll.
Cameron developed guillotine skills, doing the majority of cutting over a two-year period.
In 2005 Cameron’s partner wanted to move interstate for personal reasons, so Cameron approached Rob Maloney and they bought out Ron Peters.
As Core Print Group, Cameron assisted building the business up to 15 staff (two shifts) and added a 5 colour SM52 5 colour, 2 Colour SM 52 and a Paladio Platemaking system to the business. The Dolphin estimating system was added to the business and Filemaker Pro was used for work tickets and data collection.
2008-2009 Current
After ten years of running his own business, Cameron made the decision to sell the business.
As part of the sale of the business to his partner, Cameron agreed to remain in an advisory role until February 2009. During this time, Cameron undertook the role of Planner Estimator.
He has been instrumental in training the new production manager as well undertaking his normal duties. To assist a smooth transition, Cameron has agreed to continue in this role until mid March so as to train someone to undertake his current position.
