Print only what you need – Bowden goes ISO

Environmental awareness for South Australian print, media and marketing service provider reaches its highest standard by attaining EMS ISO:14001.

This standard comes just 12 months after it had attained the Quality Management System Certification (QMS) ISO:9001:2008 in June 2010.

Jen Baile (pictured), CEO of Bowden Group says the desire to remain at the forefront of the industry was a driving factor behind the attainment of QMS and EMS, as it is now able to provide environmentally efficient and sustainable solutions to its clients.

“Bowden Group is excited to be part of a very small group of print and related service providers to have achieved the highest environmental standard achievable,” she says.

“We are one of only approximately 30 printers Australia-wide to have achieved EMS ISO:14001, and have been extremely encouraged by the interest and support we have received from all our stakeholders.”

Upon Baile’s appointment as its new CEO mid-2010, the print provider has expanded its services to include media and marketing services and it’s client reach to the eastern seaboard.

“When I joined the company I brought the ‘print only what you need, when you need it’ philosophy which ensures reduced waste and stock redundancy, as well as definable cost savings. My perspective is that it’s much better to have a greater understanding of why the customer is after large runs than just fulfilling it.

“From an operational point of view the new ISO means that we have sustainable processes in place, using less water and the right chemicals in our presses. Every aspect of our presses has been assessed from an environmental point of view, and we now use around 25 per cent less water and power in prepress than we used to," she says.

Luke Bowden, sales and marketing manager for Bowden Group and fourth generation family member, is excited about the company’s future with so much to offer, not only for clients, but also suppliers and employees.

“I have grown up in and around the family business and I’m excited to be working with Jen, Damien (Burchell, General Manager) and the management team to take Bowden Group in to the future of combining efficient, sustainable print methodology with on-line media and e-marketing services, maintaining a strong focus on quality and of course, consideration for the environment – it’s a win-win situation,” says Bowden.
