Print records its greatest hits at NPA 2012
The industry’s best printers will go on the record as each State vies for top listing at the 29th National Print Awards in April. The night of nights will be held at the Palladium Ballroom at Melbourne’s Crown Casino on 20 April.
Competing for this year’s NPA Gold Medals will be the 182 groups and individual artists that passed the PICA round. The fierce competition will pit local State and Territory winners against each other for the title of best in the nation, according to chairman John Wanless.
“The music industry has its ARIAs, the printing industry has the NPA,” said Wanless. “Creating a print job which meets the most exacting standards of excellence is every bit as challenging as writing or producing a hit song – and we’re certainly intending to ensure we recognise our Greatest Hits with the same kind of style.”
While it’s true that the winners will take it all in terms of medals, Wanless is sure everyone will enjoy the night. Guests will have the chance to rub shoulders with artists and producers behind the top tier print on show, all while being treated to a night of fabulous food and great entertainment.
While strong attendance is expected from Melbournites, Wanless points out that April is a great time for those from other parts of the country to plan a visit and stay for the weekend.
“As well as Melbourne’s famed dining and shopping, you’ll be able to catch some fantastic acts at the Melbourne Comedy Festival, get your last chance to see the acclaimed Dinosaur Walk at the Melbourne Museum, or watch traditional rivals Carlton and Essendon slog it out at the MCG – there’s so much to do, it’s well worth the visit.
“Most importantly, in a challenging environment, it’s important to take advantage of opportunities to celebrate good times with our colleagues and industry friends and to recognise what is still great about our industry. The National Print Awards is the best of those opportunities,” he said.
