Australian and New Zealand printers are great travellers with a keen interest in attending trade shows and conferences around the world to learn the latest in technology. This wanderlust has been a characteristic of the industry since the early days and shows no sign of tailing off.
This year Print21 met with many Aussie and Kiwi printing professionals who were exploring the latest product releases and new technologies in Asia and Europe as well as in Melbourne. The encounters and many of their opinions are featured in the November issue of Print21 magazine.
Labelexpo in Brussels welcomed one of the largest ever contingents of local label convertors. With Jet Technologies leading from the front, the halls were abuzz with the latest digital label presses and converting machines. Read all about it.
IGAS in Tokyo saw huge new offset presses from home-team Komori as well as releases of high-end digital from Konica Minolta and Screen. Although the German press manufacturers were notable by their absence, IGAS still drew a good number of locals, not least to be part of the HP-user’s group Dscoop’s Asia Pacific conference. With Cactus Imaging’s Keith Ferrell (get well soon, Keith) installed as chairman, it proved to be a very Australian conference.
Mike Boyle, new honcho of HP Graphics in the region, was also there, making his first appearance to meet his customers.
Currie Group, which has long been a strong supporter of Japanese technology in Australia and New Zealand, hosted a tour of the Horizon plant outside Kyoto for some of its customers
Closer to home the first Visual Impact signage show under the auspices of the new combined suppliers association, Visual Connections, proved a hit in Melbourne. Exhibitors and organisers were happy with the roll up of punters.
