Print21 picks the winners at PrintEx

With so much on display, Print 21 awards the latest, hottest and newest technology on show at PrintEx with its famous Hot Picks.

Print21 publisher, Patrick Howard, congratulated each of the winners on their innovative new releases. “The Hot Picks is Print21’s way of recognising the best in the graphic arts industry. We are always pleased to be able to highlight the equipment that makes a real difference,” he said.

Ricoh: Pro C901 Graphic Arts Edition
PrintEx marked the first Australian showing of the Ricoh Pro C901 Graphic Arts Edition with its next generation oil-free imaging technology.

The Pro C901 is capable of non-stop productivity regardless of paper weight with speeds of 90 A4 colour pages per minute, even in duplex mode, with a monthly duty cycle of 580,000 pages.

Kayell Australia: Veripress Pro
Launched at PrintEx the Veripress Pro accepts all supported file formats and is fully optioned to provide streamlined, print-free proofing for a vast array of Bitmap and Postscript RIPs.

The Veripress Pro features a touch screen control, press console synchronisation and publication planning file support to maximise production output and keep presses rolling.

Roland DG: Roland LEJ-640 Hybrid UV-LED inkjet printer

The newest addition to Roland's award-winning VersaUV line, the LEJ-640 prints CMYK, White and Clear Gloss inks on a wide variety of flexible roll media and rigid substrates up to 13mm (.51") thick. Versatile by design, the LEJ-640 enables professionals to explore exciting new options for applications ranging from wide-format signage, displays and window graphics to POP, packaging prototypes and interior décor items.

Epson: Stylus Pro WT7900

The white ink capable Stylus Pro WT7900 offers an affordable low maintenance means of producing high quality, colour accurate proofs on clear and opaque substrates.

The Stylus Pro WT7900 is capable of rapidly producing an A2 package proof in less than 16 minutes using a uni-directional 720x1440dpi print mode.

Label Print Systems: SpeedStar 3000
The Speedstar 3000 is the world’s first intelligent digital monochrome and colour inkjet printer powered by Memjet technology. The result is a highly efficient, fast and high quality printer that provides a full colour alternative to the thermal printer.

“It’s going to have a massive influence in the market,” said Simon Pugh of Label Print Systems. “The feedback we have had is telling us that this machine will make it viable for people to enter the short run label market.”

Ferrostaal Australia: Morgana Digifold Pro
PrintEx marked the first Australian showing of the Morgana Pro series of folding, creasing and cutting products: the Digifold Pro.

Currie Group: HP Indigo 7500
Marking the ten-year anniversary of Currie Group and HP Indigo, the 7500 is designed for high-volume production, capable of printing up to 120 A4 pages per minute (ppm) in full colour or 240 ppm in either monochrome or 2 colours.

Delivering the widest and most accurate digital colour gamut on the market, HP Indigo offers up to 7 ink stations, allowing 4-, 6-, and 7-colour Pantone emulation, and off-press mixing, matching up to 97% of Pantone colours.

Canon: imagePRESS 7010VP
Making its debut as Canon’s new digital colour press flagship, the imagePRESS 7010VP will provide customers with greater profitability through increased productivity and flexibility.

New features include faster simplex and duplex output on a wider range of stocks (from 60-325gsm) and higher productivity on mixed-sided print jobs.

The new imagePRESS series also includes X-Rite iProcess Control V3, an enhanced version of its colour management software.

Konica Minolta: bizhub PRESS C8000
Konica’s flagship digital press, the bizhub PRESS C8000 boasts a high print speed of up to 80 A4 impressions per minute, using imaging technology to deliver 1200 x 1200 dpi x 8-bit full colour resolution with smoothing for unmatched clarity and precision.


The unit features a unique Humidification Unit to prevent curling by elevating the moisture content of the printed-paper, and the new third-generation Simitri HD+ polymerised toner increases productivity with heavy paper stocks and improves the image quality even further, with low temperature fixing.

Alastair Hadley (Heidelberg) and David Procter (middle) of Konica Minolta were chuffed to learn the latest bizhub had scored a Hot Pick.



DES: VUTEk GS3200
Showcasing for the first time this production powerhouse is the most versatile 3.2 metre wide large format flatbed UV in the market, capable of photographic quality and speeds in excess of 200m2 per hour. It has taken the Australia market by storm with recent sales in the commercial offset and packaging markets, signage and the display graphics markets.

Brenden Dunn takes the Hot Pick award on behalf of DES. According to sales director, Russell Cavenagh, DES has sold four of the VUTEks in four months. Good going indeed.



Kodak: NexPress SX Platform
The NexPress can help drive more jobs per shift and more profit per page, by consistently and reliably producing market-leading image quality from job to job and day to day. The SX Platform is backwards compatible to NexPress presses from 2005 to current, and the fully modular design allows for easy expansion as business needs evolve.


The newest features include long sheet option up to 660mm, expanded feeder (roll and sheet) and in-line finishing modules, newly reformulated smaller particle size reducing ink consumption and a matte finish option.

Heidelberg: Polar 80 guillotine

The new and highly automated Polar 80 guillotine made its Australian debut in Melbourne at the Print Media Academy in March. PrintEx marks the first time that it has gone on display at an Australian tradeshow.

Hmm, where have we seen these two before? Procter and Hadley are presented with a Hot Pick for Heidelberg's cutting-edge guillotine.
