Printers choose Creo iQsmart scanners

Graphic arts standard scanners are an essential part of a high quality prepress department for printing companies moving to CTP.

More and more printers are taking prepress inhouse and they are choosing iQsmart scanners, the award winning technology from Creo. As one of the few graphic arts equipment manufacturers still serious about focusing on scanning technology, Creo is developing methods of simplifying the scanning process while maintaining professional level quality.

According to Ian Hair, Creo Australia, scanner product manager, printers recognise the years of scanning leadership development in the iQsmart scanner, first from Scitex and then later from Creo.

“Scanning software is getting better all the time and while there is less need for skilled scanning operators, printers still want scanners that are capable of producing professional graphic arts results,” he said.

“They realise that Creo has the expertise in developing scanners over the years and that these latest scanners are the best on the market.”

He points out that scanner prices have fallen dramatically, with top end scanners now costing less than a quarter of their prices from five to ten years ago. “At the same time they have dramatically increased in features and capability.”

In Australia, Creo works with channel partners LCMA and Seaga in providing scanners, training and back-up to the industry.

Two models suit all needs

Creo offers two models, the iQsmart2 and iQsmart3 scanners, which offer different resolution levels and features that suit printer’s requirements. The iQsmart3 scanner is capable of resolution up to 10,000 dpi (true optical resolution up to 5500 dpi from edge to edge). The iQsmart scanners use the exclusive Creo XY Stitch scanning technology to scan all sizes of originals (from 35 mm up to A3+) with equal sharpness and high-quality results, unlike other flatbed and "virtual" drum scanners. Originals can be transparent (negative or positive), including mounted slides, reflective, or bound in a book. The efficient scanning process minimizes turnaround time, especially important with high-volume sessions. Up to 96 35 mm slides can be scanned at one time and up to 40 high-resolution scans can be performed in an hour.

Easy to Use with Automation

The intuitive workflow, automation and intelligent settings of the oXYgen scanning application enable easy operation and imaging power within a full ICC (International Color Consortium) color management profile. A unique SOOM workflow (Scan Once, Output Many) creates DT (digital transparencies) files, which can be saved in a digital archive. These files can be retrieved and used any time and as many times as needed.
