Printers get remote control

Fuji Xerox iGen4 press users will now be able to access and monitor their machines’ performance and operational status remotely from anywhere with an internet connection following the launch of a new real-time web-based tool.

Released this week, the Xerox Production Information Management System (PIMS), allows printers to remotely check on the productivity metrics, status and production performance of any number of iGen4 presses regardless of physical location.

Although this week’s release was to Xerox’s US users, Fuji Xerox Australia expects to launch the product locally within the next few months.

“Typically we launch [in Australia] about three months after the launch of the product in the US,” says Fuji Xerox Australia’s production marketing manager, Henryk Kraszewski (pictured), “but at this stage we don’t have a date of release in Australia. It will certainly be this year.”

The company claims that the PIMS online system will help print operators better balance printer loads to move projects smoothly through their shop, and identify bottlenecks and production issues as they arise.

Additionally, the system can also be used to provide printers with historical data that can be used for trend analysis while away from their premises.
