With just over a week to go until the Queensland state election on Saturday November 25, Printing Industries has released a 'scorecard' that rates the parties in contention on how well their policies benefit printers.
The scorecard outlines the parties' positions on the key areas of energy, education, tax, and infrastructure, and rates how well they line up with the PIAA's policy objectives. “We advocate for good policy for our industry, regardless of political orientation. That is why we have engaged with every main party about the key policies they bring to the election, and how they may impact our industry,” said Andrew Macaulay, CEO PIAA.
Both the Liberal National and Labor parties are listed as having favourable policies in all policy areas examined. One Nation is listed as 'unclear or neutral' on the possibility of cutting or abolishing payroll tax, while the Greens are 'unclear or neutral' on cutting company tax for small businesses and on the Buy Local / Queensland First government procurement policy.
As at his recent presentation to the FPLMA forum in Melbourne, Macaulay has reminded printers that they hold considerable political clout if they choose to wield it, and urged them to engage closely with the political process. “Our industry is in a unique position in that there are participants in every electorate in the Queensland election. We encourage all members to raise policy issues for the industry directly with your local candidates.
"We recommend you to use this scorecard as a tangible reference for you to engage with your local political candidates, and ensure that the printing industries are front of mind for all parties," he said.
