Printing industry packs into Auckland for Pride in Print Awards

An estimated 1,000 industry types are expected to fill the venue for the prestigious Pride In Print Awards this Friday night to see who picks up the gold awards and the overall Supreme Award for the finest examples of work from all sectors of New Zealand print, ranging from screen printing to labels, annual reports to packaging.

Sue Archibald, awards manager, says increasing industry support for the event has seen last year’s record of 900 entries surpassed.

“We are finding that a greater mix of companies are entering, indicating that the strategy of spreading the Awards’ net wider through the print and packaging entries is paying dividends,” says Archibald.

“This greater coverage has succeeded in capturing more interest among all the diverse industry sectors, encouraging entries from smaller printers as well as large, and from provincial firms as well as the major city operations.”

Grant Letfus, convenor of judges for the event, claims his team of 64 specialist judges took three days to sift through the entries to the awards. He claims the excellent standard of the work submitted reflects the amount the print and packaging industries have invested into new equipment.

“There has been significant investment in importing top-of-the range machinery in the past few years,” says Letfus.

“This is being shown in some of the magazine work we are seeing, where the quality is the highest-ever in seen in Pride In Print. It appears printing firms are being rewarded for their investment.”

The Pride In Print Awards will be held with the support of Heidelberg New Zealand, Nova Inks and Chemicals, Spicers Paper and Fuji Xerox along with 30 other industry sponsors.

If you’re quick there might be a few tickets left.
