PrintNZ president speaks up for small printers

Newly elected PrintNZ president, John Boyle, vows to let small-sized print business be heard under his reign.

Following the PrintNZ Annual General Meeting in April, Boyle (pictured) was elected president, taking over the role from Warren Leslie. As the co-owner of Rainbow Print Group in Christchurch, he is aware of the plight faced by many independent print businesses and is determined to fight on their behalf.

“The majority of PrintNZ members are small and independently owned,” he said. “The private equity groups are very much a part of the market from a sales point of view, but a small portion of the industry as a whole. I want to make sure that democracy works and little guys get a voice.”

According to Boyle, he may well be PrintNZ’s first south island president. Entering the industry from the outside 13 years ago (he bought a printing business from his father-in-law which he later merged with Rainbow Print Group), Boyle has been busy preparing for the launch of a web-to-print company early next month.

CEO of PrintNZ, Joan Grace, welcomed Boyle on board. “We are delighted to have John step into the role of President of PrintNZ," she said. "John’s experience in the industry and fresh ideas will add to the mix as we continue to promote a strong and vibrant industry and drive forward projects such as the Part of Life campaign."

The role of president is a voluntary position and Boyle believes that he has the affable and enthusiastic required to achieve positive change for PrintNZ members.

“I have a natural passion for the industry, and for paper,” he said. “Paper is a big part of life and will continue to be. The virtual world of electronics is not for everyone.”
