QLM Label Makers rock on with first Gallus ECS 340
Family business, QLM Label Makers, first in southern hemisphere to install granite-based Gallus ECS 340 press.
The Brisbane-based company, which specialises in small-to-medium enterprise clients embarked on an equipment upgrade program five years. Beginning with two Gallus ECS 280 presses, the machine proved "a boon" to the business, according to general manager, Simon Pugh (pictured).
Eventually, QLM needed something that could take on a wider range of work. Pugh had heard of the new Gallus ECS 340 and after inspecting it at last year’s LabelExpo, believed that it ticked all the right boxes for his business.

“It’s a wider format press and of a commercially viable price range,” he said. “It had some significant innovations, including a cool UV lamp system, lower energy usage and a reduced carbon footprint.”
Gallus Australia managing director, James Rodden, believes that being the first in the southern hemisphere to install the press will offer QLM Label Makers a competitive advantage. “It’s a unique system that will allow them to enjoy high quality and efficiencies due to low waste and set-up times,” he said.
The press will go on show at QLM Label Makers’ open house in June, followed by a Gallus open house in Victoria the same month.
Pugh sees these investments as important to the company’s 35-year history and reputation in the label industry.
“The installation of the Gallus ECS 340 adds to the diverse print capabilities offered by now providing high-volume production runs more efficiently and effectively,” he said. “As a family business, it’s great to see how we’ve grown up.”
