The new factory and head office is treble the size of the previous facility, and houses some of the world's most advanced Mark Andy flexo presses, and a host of other label equipment. QLM has more than 100 staff in Australia, and in addition to the Brisbane facility operates a digital hub in Melborne with HP Indigo.

Simon Pugh, managing director of the 47-year-old business, which also operates plants in Vietnam and Malaysia, said the decision to open in the current circumstances was designed to show “the positive aspirations that are a hallmark of QLM”.

Paying tribute to his parents Del and Dave Pugh, who started the business in 1973 underneath their house.

“They didn't have much in the way of a strategic plan, vision, or market analysis, but what they did have was passion for their trade, and for their customers, and we carry those characteristics with us today. QLM is infused with passion, for long term solutions for our customers, long term supply chain solutions, and long term career opportunities for our staff," Pugh said.

“Our vision is to be a complete label solutions provider, based on consistency, accountability, respect, excellence, and sustainability.”

Among the well-wishers speaking at the event were Karen Andrews, federal minister for industry, science and technology and shadow treasurer Jim Chalmers, both acknowledging the investment QLM is making in local manufacturing and employment.

Customers were also sharing their appreciation of the QLM approach, as were suppliers including Mark Daws from Currie Group, who praised the “creative drive” of QLM.
