Queensland label printer equips for Victorian growth

Taking on its eighth Mark Andy press as part of a Victorian branch refit, insignia refits its Knoxfield factory to increase capacity for future growth.

According to Jack Winson, managing director, the latest in its line up of same-brand presses is the second to go into its factory near Melbourne. “We’ve found it good to stick with the one brand as parts can be interchangeable, we can train operators easily and the Mark Andy has been a good fit with the work we have.

“Currently our manufacturing out of Melbourne is at 25%, and we see that going to 50% in the next couple of years. We see a lot of growth in the Victorian market,” he said.

After purchasing Compass Labels last year, insignia retained all equipment and staff to pump up its head count by 25%. The latest equipment upgrading to its capacity includes turret rewinders, a Rotoflex die cutter and a Rotoflex Slitter rewinder, all supplied by Aldus.

“Our sales will be up about 20% on last year, just on the service offering we have put forward and the fact that we can manufacture in Brisbane or Melbourne,” adds Winson.

The label printer’s third new press in 18 months, the Mark Andy 2200 is fully equipped with GEW UV and hot air drying, roll loader, Harper anilox rolls, web turn bar, delam/relam unit to enable insignia front and back printing, die hoist, an increased press speed from 150 to 228mpm all capped off with the latest Trucolor video camera unit.

Kevin Murphy, Aldus Northern region Sales manager, says the relationship between the two companies has been developing over many years.

“It’s very pleasing to see our clients returning to purchase their second, third and especially their eighth Mark Andy press from us. It just goes to show that Mark Andy & Aldus are satisfying the needs of our clients,” says Murphy.
