ColourChiefs has topped the medal tally at the 2017 Queensland Printing Industries Craftsmanship Awards, with 11 medals including seven gold, plus the Judges Award.

The glitzy event held in Brisbane on Friday night, November 10, acknowledged the work of 16 businesses across 22 award categories. ColourChiefs and Platypus Graphics each took home 11 medals, with Platypus winning four gold, five silver and two bronze, while ColourChiefs won seven gold, as well as the Judges Award for its Yaroomba Beach Presentation Packaging.

Andrew Macaulay, CEO PIAA, congratulated all of the winners on the quality of their submissions. "Queenslanders should be proud of the exceptional work that you do. I offer my congratulations to all medallists - you have been recognised as the best amongst a high standard of entries," he said.

The LIA also announced its Graduate of the Year results, with the $15,000 national scholarship prize going to Chloe Rudd of Print DNA in South Australia. The Future Leaders Award went to Jason Turai, of Orora Group in South Australia, who will receive a fully paid trip to an international print trade show in 2018.

Mel Ireland, federal president of the LIA, congratulated the winners and thanked sponsors Visual Connections, Printing Industries and Heidelberg. "The LIA are always honoured to be able to celebrate and reward outstanding emerging talent in our industry. We are very happy to present these two acclaimed awards to the deserving winners and we are sure that these prizes will boost the recipient’s careers in our fabulous industry," said Ireland. "Selecting a winner from such a high standard of recipients is always a difficult thing to do."
