Rainbow Print Group’s golden girl shines in NZ awards
Rainbow Print Group’s apprentice, Melissa Dalgety, took centre stage at this year’s Pride In Print Awards, after being awarded not one, but two gold medals.
Dalgety (pictured), who has worked at Christchurch-based Rainbow Print Group for over three and a half years, outshone a number of other apprentices to win her category of Digital Processes for Print along with another gold medal for her design portfolio entered in the Specialty Products and Processes category.
Winning two gold medals is a significant achievement for anyone in the New Zealand printing industry – especially an apprentice. Such was the surprise that it took Dalgety a while to comprehend what she had achieved. “As my name was read out it felt like fireworks were going off all around me,” she said. “I felt so proud, emotional and excited, it was quite surreal.”
The design portfolio was created to show the variety of graphic design work produced during her apprenticeship and included textured wallpaper for the portfolio book covers with screw post bindings, held within a box covered in black book cloth.
Her apprenticeship is over now, but Dalgety intends on sticking around the world of printing and hopes to continue her run of luck. “I would like to remain in the print and design industry and am keen to explore new areas and other opportunities,” she said.
“My future goals are to progress into a management role and potentially I would like to become a print coordinator and or a brand manager.”
