Printer and supplier Peacock Bros has dramatically increased its digital label capacity with the purchase of the first HP Indigo 8000 press in the Asia-Pacific and Japan, which has been installed at its plant in Glendenning in Sydney's west.

The new press from Currie Group joins the converter's existing Indigo 4500 and 6800 presses, and will be up and running within the next few weeks. "Our market in digital has grown exponentially, and we knew we needed more capacity. With the HP Indigo 8000 coming out, we've basically been able to double our print capacity as well as grow our market share into longer runs, offering the same price but with digital quality," said Andrew Crump, operations manager.

Crump says the decision to purchase the Asia-Pacific's first Indigo 8000 was a way to go the extra mile for Peacock Bros' clients. "We've always prided ourselves on being a leader in our industry and looking to the future. That's what it came down to with the purchase of this press - asking ourselves what we could do better and how we could offer our customers more for the same value. We could have easily just bought another 6800, but that wouldn't have allowed us to offer anything more to our customers - just expanded our fleet and given us more print power. This has not only expanded our fleet, but expanded the breadth of products we can offer," he said.

Peacock Bros has a long-standing relationship with Currie Group and chose Indigo for its output quality and speed, says Carl Dutfield, production manager. "Historically we've already had a very good working relationship with Currie Group across both of our Indigo machines, so they had runs on the board to start with - but in testing other machines, we also found that Indigo still has the advantage in terms of quality, and the 8000 gives us a bigger advantage based on speed," Dutfield said.

Peacock Bros' Sydney facility is entirely digital, and the company has another fully conventional plant in Melbourne. It celebrates its 130th anniversary next year.
