Rock bible rolls out on carbon neutral paper

The New York-based magazine, owned by Wenner Media, announced that from its June 28 issue onwards, it will be printed on Catalyst Cooled paper, a planet-friendly option from North American company, Catalyst Paper. The Catalyst Cooled paper range has lighter basis weights that take less energy and raw materials to manufacture and transport, elemental chlorine-free production and the option of 100 per cent certified fibre.

Climate change was one of the main reasons the magazine decided to use carbon neutral paper, according to managing editor, Will Dana. "Rolling Stone has provided a unique window on national affairs for 40 years," he said. "Today, climate change is the biggest issue facing our planet and printing our magazine on carbon-neutral paper is one step that makes business and ecological sense. Rolling Stone offers cutting-edge social commentary on issues that matter and acts on those where we can make a difference so to be the first magazine to print on carbon neutral paper is a natural fit for us."

To reflect this, the new issue will feature an interview with former vice president cum environmental activist Al Gore and reports on global warming solutions, the Bush administrations climate change police record and interviews with the organisers of Live Earth concerts.

Next Media, who publish the Australian edition of Rolling Stone did not return calls to comment on whether it would follow in the footsteps of its American counterpart.
