Roland rewards creativity
After five months and over 1000 entries worldwide, the Roland Creative Award winners have finally been announced with the top three of the South Pacific region’s 100 entrants taking home prizes this week.
The region’s first place winner was Melbourne’s Whites Law Bindery, which has won the coveted first prize of a trip to Japan to compete against other regional winners from around the world. The second prize went to Signs QLD, and Brisbane’s Signright sign specialists won third prize.
Whites Law Bindery’s winning entry was its Mahogany Room menu holders (pictured), the gold covers of which were UV printed onto white luminescent cloth and then mounted to screen board. The gold was matched to a PMS colour while the wine glass pattern was printed using clear ink embossing.
The logo in the menu’s centre was solvent printed on vinyl, laminated and then cut using Print/Cut registration. It was then debossed using a die cut on the Roland engraver.

The regional judging panel, which included VISA president, Mark Tailby, and Roland DG managing director, Marc Margetts, judged the entries on three main criteria: creativity, innovation and execution.
Margetts says that Whites Law Bindery’s entry was, “executed perfectly and clearly demonstrates how Roland technology can work together to produce innovative and creative works.”
The South Pacific regional winner will now compete against the other regional winners from around the world, with the final winner to be announced in April.
