Screen signs on as Galley Club sponsor
New chapter in this year’s Galley Club Awards as Screen takes on role as gold sponsor.
Screen’s move to align itself with the association of Australian publishing and book production executives demonstrates its growing presence in the digital book production market.
According to Akira Hayakawa, managing director of Dainippon Screen Australia, the sponsorship will strengthen the company’s reputation in the book sector. “Book production is very important in our global strategy with Truepress Jet 520,” he said. “We are honoured to be accepted as Gold Sponsor of the Galley Club Awards. There will be an increasing number of entries printed digitally as this technology penetrates the market further.”
Galley Club President, Michael Schulz (picured)
welcomed the deal. “We welcome Screen as a Gold sponsor of the Awards. Digital technology is having a profound impact on the way book publishing operates. Books that are out-of-print can resurface because now it is economical to print just a few. Unknown authors can find markets and success for the same reason,” he said.
“Booksellers can order copies based on daily sales reality and almost eliminate returns and the wasteful practice of re-pulping unsold copies. Online book sales can be made before the copy is even printed, and personalised ‘ex libris’ copies are an unexplored market. Companies like Screen are bringing new opportunities into publishing and all of us in the business should watch carefully.”
