The fastest version of Fuji Xerox’s toner-based engines, now with an optional fifth colour, increases the capacity of the Sydney-based digital marketing house as it contemplates a future takeover by IPMG.

Building on its already impressive array of Fuji Xerox engines, SEMA is among the first Australian companies to install the new high-powered machine. Launched mid-last year, the iGen5 has received good reviews for its ability to meet a wide gamut of corporate colours, essential in the digital marketing space.

The investment comes as SEMA consolidates its agreement with IPMG, the second largest printing company in the region.  The two formed a strategic and financial alliance in January to work collaboratively in the direct mail and digital marketing sector. The alliance provides for sales, marketing and production co-operation and a path to equity ownership of SEMA for IPMG.

According to CEO of IPMG, Kevin Slaven, SEMA’s skills in data capture and cleansing as well as its personalisation and digital messaging capabilities complements IPMG’s existing marketing communications services.

John Stewart, managing director of SEMA, said the alliance with IPMG is the next step in the turnaround of SEMA. “We have successfully moved the company into the digital marketing world and are able to offer our customers true multi channel messaging capabilities.

“Nevertheless, our expertise in data, our market credibility and service offerings will be greatly enhanced by working closely with IPMG. The financial security IPMG brings to us provides certainty for our future. It is also of significant value to our customers as we will be able to introduce them to the experience and expertise of IPMG in marketing communications.”

The new iGen5 going into the Kingsgrove plant is part of an ongoing investment in the latest digital engines for the company since it came out of Administration three years ago. According to Brent McCulloch, COO, SEMA, the iGen5 greatly increases the colour gamut available from a digital device while producing quality that was once the sole domain of offset printers.

“Where the iGen5 really delivers is in its colour matching capabilities. The addition of a fifth colour greatly increases the colour gamut available from a digital device.

“The iGen5 ensures that SEMA can accurately match client specific or special palette. This exceptional capability to match means that SEMA’s clients can rest assured that their brand will be accurately represented, “ he said.

Roger Labrum, solutions marketing manager at Fuji Xerox Australia, expects the press to lead the increasing digitisation of on-demand printing. “The new iGen5 expands its capabilities by not only providing superior productivity, reliability, control and automation but also a new level in colour output. We are extremely pleased with the number of large businesses expressing interest in the iGen5  series who can see how they can enhance their existing capabilities with this product,” said Labrum.
