A Printing Industries Sustainable Green Print (SGP) trainer and auditor has been awarded the prestigious Environmental Practitioner of the Year award.
Simon Leverton, Senior Manager of EnviroRisk Management in Geelong, Victoria personally facilitates all Printing Industries SGP training in Victoria and Tasmania and is also an accredited auditor.
The award was announced at the Environment Institute of Australia and New Zealand’s (EIANZ) Annual Conference Gala Dinner held on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast.
According to Bill Healey, CEO of Printing Industries, Leverton’s selection for the award, from candidates across Australia and New Zealand, was a tribute to his commitment, knowledge and passion in delivering environmental compliance training and standards monitoring.
“Simon’s success with printing companies undertaking Printing Industries Sustainable Green Print training and certification is a glowing example of the quality work he is doing guiding many of our members through to successful completion of their SGP certification,” he said.
“It also demonstrates our own commitment to environmental sustainability by providing members with a sustainability pathway via our SGP multi level program and the best possible support to help them achieve their goals.”
Chair of the Certified Environmental Practitioner Scheme (CEnvP) Board, Nigel Murphy commended Leverton as being an: “Outstanding environmental practitioner who has worked for government and the private sector.
“His work currently assists private sector and government clients meet regulatory compliance, strive for best practice and implement resource efficiency and monitoring initiatives. Practitioners like Simon are the backbone of our profession,” he said.

Leverton said receiving the award was a very pleasant surprise.
“I’m flattered, as well as humbled, to be recognised by my peers for my role in the field of developing and implementing environmental systems, and advancing professional and ethical environmental practice,” he said.
“The Award is something I never expected to receive, and I wish to thank all my business associates and work friends for their support.”
EnviroRisk management director Stephen Jenkins described Leverton as a “pioneer”.
“Simon has been a pioneer of Environmental Management Systems in Australia, having worked on improving the environmental performance of organisations for over 20 years. He is a highly skilled operator, who is dedicated to obtaining a win-win outcome for both the environment and the business he’s working with,” he said.
Printing Industries general manager Victoria and Tasmania, Ron Patterson, echoed these sentiments.
“Simon’s work with our members has brought nothing but praise for the support, knowledge and enthusiasm he uses to educate and motivate them across the finishing line.
“He is passionate about the role of SGP and what it achieves for printing businesses in both environmental compliance and direct bottom line benefits to businesses. He is a master of his craft,” Patterson said.
CEnvP was established in 2004 with the support of the Australian Government Department of the Environment, Water, Heritage and the Arts to advance ethical and competent environmental practice. The EIANZ, a non-profit professional association formed in 1987, plays a key role in Australia and New Zealand as a major contributor in the development of effective and responsible policies in environmental management.
