Shinohara goes to Bathurst

Father and son team of Peter and Alan Wright of Central Commercial Printers in Bathurst are the proud owners of the latest Shinohara 52IVP, the first four-colour press in that part of the country. Last week the press that attracted so much attention on the Currie & Company stand at the PrintEx03 in Sydney, made the trek over the Blue Mountains to the long established, (29-years-old) print works at Bathurst.

The Shinohara 52IV P is a four-colour, A3 perfecting press, equipped with all the latest enhancements from the respected Japanese manufacturer.

According to Peter Wright (pictured above taking delivery of the press in Bathurst – photo courtesy of Western Advocate), the press “has all the bells and whistles you could possibly want. It’s got CIP3, auto plate-cocking, blanket washing, the lot. It was installed last week and it’s working well. We’re producing more than double as much again in the same time,” he said.

The Shinohara joins a solid array of printing equipment at CCP, including a two-colour Shinohara that was bought at last PacPrint. The upgrade became necessary due to the increase in four-colour work coming in.

“We’ve been putting more and more four-colour work through the older Shinohara in two passes. Colour has become cheap and affordable and we want to be able to supply that market. Along with the DPX CTP system the new press gives us the flexibility we need. A customer can come in with prepared files for a four-colour job and fifteen to twenty minutes later we can show them a press proof,” said Peter.

The specs of the press

Among the labour and time-saving options on the press are simple perfecting changeover and a rapid plate changeover system as well as easy cocking of plate cylinders, large printing area, refined high-speed perfecting, all designed to make the job quicker and easier. And some of the features: preloading feeder pile, mechanical and electronic double-sheet detectors, feeder timing micro adjustment, detectors for skewed sheets and overruns, split ink fountain blade, continuous dampening system, sheet decurler, static eliminator...the list goes on and on.

Shinohara has long enjoyed the reputation of being the best value press in Australia. This latest generation adds to the reputation.
