Signarama has thrown its support behind the NSW government’s first free Pre-Apprenticeship Course at the Sydney Institute of TAFE in Ultimo.
The sign franchise company has teamed with the NSW Construction and Property Services’ Industry Training Advisory Body (ITAB) to secure funding for the course which will run over 6 weeks from March 2016. Up to 20 spots are available, free of charge to students, and the course includes five weeks of practical training in selected core units from Certificate III, as well as one week of work experience in a Signarama store.
“Any small business will tell you that the greatest frustration is staff,” said Signarama’s National Director, Evan Foster. “This is a combined industry and Government effort to drive recruitment for the industry, which has been lagging behind other trades-based services over recent years.”
Foster has been working with the ITAB along with other key industry representatives and sees this as a unique way of overcoming staffing challenges not just in their own signage stores, but across the industry in general.
“We know that the signage industry is dynamic and vibrant and we want to introduce new blood and this course is a perfect way to whet the appetite for those that may be interested in finding out more before committing. The benefit for signage businesses is that you can bring on an apprentice who at least has had time to understand the basics of what happens in a modern sign business and can hit the ground running when they join your operation.”
Recruitment for this Course has begun, and to express your interest, visit your nearest Signarama store (visit www.signarama.com.au for locations), contact the Signarama Head Office on 02 8878 0400 or via email admin@signarama.com.au.
