Snap installs HP Indigo 5500 in Sydney and Melbourne stores
Sydney and Melbourne printing franchises snap up two new HP Indigo 5500 presses.
As long-time users of Fuji Xerox equipment, Mike Palmer, managing director of Snap Printing, saw the need to grow the fleet of equipment throughout two of the franchises in Pyrmont, Sydney and Melbourne’s Docklands.
After looking around at what was available, he eventually settled on the HP Indigo press. “The major selling point for the Indigo 5500 is that it can exactly match PMS and spot colours,” he said. “We assessed the market very carefully, we saw that the Indigo offered us something different in the digital area.”
A new 5500 was installed in the Pyrmont store in late July this year, with another following at the opening of Snap’s Docklands store in September.

Palmer said that having the Indigo in Pyrmont was a geographic choice, as there are a number of design agencies located in the area. “Most corporates expect offset quality and will only accept digital if it has an offset look and feel; which the Indigo does,” he said.
Likewise, Snap’s Dockland store does a lot of printing for companies such as ANZ and NAB.
Edel Somers, centre manager for Snap Pyrmont, describes the feedback from clients as positive. “It’s spot-on quality,” she said. “Agencies are very happy with it.”
Her production manager, Jo McDonald, also found the transition easy thanks to support and training from the Currie Group, who sell the machine throughout Australia.
“The machine is different to what we have used before because it is ink-based rather than toner-based,” she said. “It’s the closest result you can get to offset without actually having an offset machine.”
