Southport Printing Co in Queensland has become the first printing company in Australia to install the PressProfiler ink key pre-setting system from Prepress UK.

The company bought the system for its Heidelberg SM52 offset press. As it integrates with Southport’s new Screen Equios workflow, there was no need for the owners to buy the Equios CIP3 option as well.

PressProfiler works by examining digital files received from any workflow and generating ink key pre-setting data to save set-up time on offset presses at job changeover. According to Andrew Kelly of Southport, PressProfiler offered great value for the printer’s operations.

“We now send the ink profiles from prepress to the press itself, instead of setting the ink ducts manually. It’s much more accurate than doing it than doing it by eye, and produces less waste. It saves us time and money.

“We were particularly impressed by the remote installation and calibration service. Faster and just as effective, but significantly more affordable, than sending an engineer to do the job. We’d absolutely recommend it to others,” he said.

Nic Chapman, sales director at Prepress UK, said the manufacturer was pleased to make its first Australian sale, joining others in the UK, USA, France, Italy, Germany, Sweden, South Africa, Israel, and Ireland.

“It is a pleasure to supply a UK developed product to a printer in Australia. We were delighted to get the initial lead for this sale from our advertising campaign for our dedicated PressProfiler.com website.

“We are looking forward to having discussions with other Australian printers seeking effective software solutions. Australian printers certainly understand print and can appreciate products that make financial sense as well as making their life easier and their production more effective. We would like to think of this as the first of many installations,” said Chapman.
