Spot Press hits its mark with massive Goss investment
The new building will accommodate the company's existing two Goss Community presses, a Goss Urbanite press, an Albert A101 mini heatset press and a comprehensive prepress and binding department. The additional space will also be used to house a huge range of equipment on order from Goss Graphics, consisting of five Goss Community Magnum towers and a Goss Universal 50 folder capable of printing 50,000 copies per hour.
Also being loaded into the delivery trucks is a Goss Urbanite press that was from picked up from Border Mail Printing. The company plans to upgrade the Urbanite press with remote inking, spray dampening and automatic registration, allowing a greater colour capacity.
According to John Georgeantzakos, managing director, once the installation is complete, it will be capable of producing up to 112 pages of tabloid product in one section with a maximum of 56 pages of four-colour and up to 16 pages in heatset. In addition to the press upgrades already mentioned, Spot Press has also snapped up a second CTP machine in the form of an Agfa Polaris XCV.
Georgeantzakos says the purchases were deemed necessary when the company discovered it had reached its full capacity at it present location. He claims even further upgrades are planned for 2006. “This investment will allow us to increase our capacity and grow even further,” he says.
While Spot Press is expanding its capacity for heat press production, Georgeantzakos asserts that as far the company's overall mission statement is concerned, it will continue to head in the same direction. “Spot Press's focus will remain in newspaper and magazine production, with our attention centred particularly on street press,” he says.
