Swinburne Press picks up three Oce printers
Melbourne’s Swinburne University print room installs three Oce VarioPrint 6160 presses.
Manager of Swinburne Press, Gerard Brick, (pictured) chose the Océ VarioPrint 6000 series installation after seeing the units in action at Chisholm and Holmesglen TAFE colleges in 2008, when he was asked to serve on tender evaluation panels for those establishments.
“I realised these were excellent presses and that view was confirmed when we compared them to other printers during the Swinburne tender process,” he explained. “The quality is excellent and they are the most robust presses in the market. Additionally Océ were able to guarantee their presses for 10 years which future proofs our investment.”
“An important part of the tender process was that the successful tenderer had to be able to convert our legacy files from a proprietary format, used by the previous supplier, into open architecture files that enable their use on all printers, including non-Océ ones.”
The Océ VarioPrint 6000 series’ environmental qualifications were also important to Brick.
“Our workplace was tested for noise levels prior to the installation and the noise level from our previous machines was judged to be so high we were worried about health and safety issues. The contrast with the Océ equipment is remarkable. They’re so quiet it’s hard to know when they have finished printing,” he added.
