Sydney TAFE students go for gold in World Skills Olympics
23-year-old students, Anna Moran and Rhys Guncur from Sydney TAFE will put all their prepress skills to the test when they compete in the World Skills Olympics.
The two are up against seven other students from around Australia at the national competition, held at the Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre, Darling Harbour from 11-13th July.
WorldSkills Australia (WSA) is a national, not-for-profit organisation that provides young Australians aged 23 and under the opportunity to gain new skills, compete against their peers in their chosen trade and fast track their skills and career development.
Bill Chapman, head teacher, has taught both Moran and Guncur for the past three years. "They're both really good kids: Anna is the extrovert and Rhys is an introvert," he said.
"I think they will go well because Australia has always done really well in the World Skills Olympics. We've got a really good standard of kids."
The three-day competition involves designing prepress work such as cartons and posters. It is a challenge, but one that Chapman believes both students are equally capable of. "There's quite a lot involved," he said. "They bring their prepress skills to the floor."
